Notice of Casual Vacancy to be filled by Co-option

NOTICE is hereby given that pursuant to the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules 2006 s5.(5), the lead electoral officer of South Holland District Council has confirmed that the casual vacancy in the office of parish councillor for Sutton Bridge & Wingland Parish Council resulting from the resignation of Mr. Raymond Perkins on 25 October 2022 is not required to be filled by election and that therefore the Parish Council must, as soon as practicable, co-opt a person to fill the vacancy.
The Parish Council may co-opt any person who is legally qualified to hold such office, and who is willing to serve, provided they are qualified in accordance with at least one of the following:
1. Registered as local government electors for the Parish in the current electoral register.
2. Have during the whole of the previous 12 months occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the Parish.
3. His/her principal or only place of work during the whole of the previous 12 months have been in the Parish.
4. Have resided either in the Parish or within 3 miles of it during the whole of the previous 12 months.
Any person being considered must be a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European Union citizen who is 18 years of age or over. The applicant must not be debarred from standing as councillor.
Persons wishing to serve as parish councillor should contact the clerk at the address below to request an application form. A copy of the application form is also available as part of the Parish Council’s ‘Councillor Vacancy and Co-option Policy’, downloadable on the Parish Council’s website under the ‘Policies & Procedures’ tab.
Completed application forms must be submitted to the clerk by 5pm Friday 20 January 2023, following which the Parish Council will fill the vacancy by co-option.
